Teide and Anaga Parks Area Guide
Teide National Park, dominated by the towering Mount Teide, is Tenerife's best-known natural wonder and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Just 30 minutes from Santa Cruz, Anaga is conveniently near yet a world away. Villages like Taganana, Afur, and Chamorga nestle into terraced hillsides, where life is unhurried and traditions are resilient. Locals like to combine a morning forest walk with a seafood lunch overlooking the Atlantic—especially in Taganana, where family restaurants grill that morning's fresh catch.

Anaga is a walker's dream, with trails weaving through cloud forests, along ridges, and down to hidden beaches like Playa de Benijo and Playa de Tamadite. The more intrepid can battle the vertiginous coastal trails for vistas of sheer cliffs and turquoise sea. Swimming is generally for strong swimmers only, due to currents, but the beaches are perfect for picnics and photo shoots.

For a genuine local experience, go to Taganana for lunch at Casa África, where the day's fish is served with papas arrugadas and chilled Canary beer, and descend the winding road to Playa de Benijo late in the afternoon—sunsets here, with the waves crashing against the rocks, are simply magical.
