Torrevieja is one of the most established coastal destinations on the Costa Blanca. Situated between Alicante and Cartagena, it combines a well-developed infrastructure with a relaxed atmosphere that appeals to both residents and visitors. Visitors and residents will find something to do here all year round, however, in summer, the town really pulls out all the stops, offering a full programme of activities, festivals and outdoor experiences that make the most of its setting by the sea.
Blue Flag beaches to explore
Torrevieja maintains six Blue Flag beaches in 2025, reflecting its ongoing commitment to environmental quality, safety and public amenities. Playa del Cura, in the centre of town, is one of the most accessible and popular, boasting full facilities and a palm-lined promenade. Playa de Los Locos offers more space, with calm waters and wide sands ideal for swimming and families.
At the southern end of town, Playa de Los Náufragos is a favourite with locals, offering a broad beach and several chiringuitos. La Mata-Sur is the largest beach in the area, stretching along the northern edge of Torrevieja with ample room even in peak season. Cabo Cervera, next to La Mata, is smaller and more natural in feel, while Cala de las Piteras is a quiet cove suited to those looking for a more peaceful experience.
All six beaches have lifeguard services in summer, facilities for people with reduced mobility and options for renting parasols and sunbeds. Many also offer equipment rental for water sports including paddleboarding and kayaks.
Active days on the water
Torrevieja’s marina is the starting point for a range of sea-based activities. Jet ski tours operate daily throughout the summer months, while parasailing gives visitors a bird’s-eye view of the coastline. For families, boat trips to nearby coves or to Tabarca Island provide a rewarding half-day escape.
Aquopolis Torrevieja, a large water park on the edge of town, is another popular option for families, with a mix of fast slides, splash areas and shaded picnic zones. Open from June to September, it is one of the top attractions for younger visitors.
Nature and walking routes
Just inland from the town are the salt lakes of La Mata and Torrevieja, which form part of a protected natural park. The area is known for its pink-hued water, caused by natural microorganisms, and for its birdlife including flamingos and avocets. Walking and cycling trails loop around the lakes, with several signposted viewing points and information boards along the way.
Events and festivals
The summer calendar in Torrevieja is varied and well supported. The Habaneras and Polyphony International Contest in July brings choirs from around the world to perform in open-air venues and the town’s auditorium. In August, a weekend fair takes over the main square, with artisan stalls, food stands and children’s activities.
The Reggaeton Beach Festival returns on 26 and 27 July 2025, drawing a younger crowd to the dedicated event space near the port. Torrevieja also hosts regular night markets, classical concerts and folk events throughout the season.
Dining and evenings out
As the sun goes down, the pace in Torrevieja shifts but doesn’t slow. The seafront restaurants near the marina and along Playa del Cura stay busy into the night, with options ranging from traditional rice dishes and seafood to international cuisine. Smaller bars and taverns a few streets back often offer more local character and attract a mix of residents and returning visitors.
For live music and a more upbeat scene, Marina Niki beach club offers evening events during the summer. Other local venues host flamenco shows, jazz nights and terrace DJs on weekends.
